Effortless Amish Applesauce Cake (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Dry ingredients

01 - ½ tsp nutmeg
02 - 1 tsp cinnamon
03 - ½ tsp baking powder
04 - 1 tsp baking soda
05 - 1½ cups all-purpose flour

→ Wet ingredients

06 - 2 eggs
07 - ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
08 - ½ cup granulated sugar
09 - ½ cup brown sugar
10 - ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
11 - 1 tsp vanilla extract

→ Optional add-ins

12 - ½ cup raisins or chopped walnuts

# Instructions:

01 - Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and let it heat up. Use butter or spray to grease a 9-inch pan and lightly dust it with flour.
02 - Combine nutmeg, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, and flour in a bowl. Use a whisk or fork to mix.
03 - In another bowl, cream the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar together until it’s fluffy. Beat in the eggs one by one, then add applesauce and vanilla.
04 - Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir gently until blended, and if you want, fold in the nuts or raisins.
05 - Pour the batter into the pan. Bake for about 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the middle. Let it sit in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a rack to cool fully.
06 - Top it off with cream cheese frosting, a drizzle of caramel, or some vanilla glaze if you'd like.

# Notes:

01 - Using applesauce from scratch gives a bolder taste.
02 - Swap in whole wheat flour for a denser feel.
03 - Keep leftovers in a sealed container for three days max.
