Tasty Double Chocolate Sourdough Bagels (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Bagel Dough

01 - 1¼ cups self-rising flour
02 - ¼ cup of cocoa powder (unsweetened)
03 - 2 tablespoons of white sugar (optional)
04 - ¾ cup plain or vanilla-flavored Greek yogurt
05 - ¾ cup sourdough starter that’s either unused or discarded
06 - 1 cup chocolate chips (split into two portions)

→ Homemade Self-Rising Flour

07 - 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
08 - 1½ teaspoons baking powder
09 - ¼ teaspoon salt
10 - ¼ teaspoon baking soda

→ Egg Wash

11 - 1 large egg
12 - 1 tablespoon of milk

# Instructions:

01 - Get your oven ready by preheating it to 375°F. Lay a sheet of parchment on a baking tray.
02 - In a big bowl, stir together the self-rising flour, cocoa powder, sugar, sourdough discard, and yogurt until everything is blended. The dough will feel sticky.
03 - Dust a surface with plenty of flour, then move your dough there and knead until it’s smooth. Add more flour, one tablespoon at a time, if the dough is too sticky.
04 - Flatten the dough out, place ½ cup of the chocolate chips in the middle, and fold the dough over them. Knead to evenly spread them throughout.
05 - Cut the dough into 8 equal parts. Roll each one into a rope, then shape it into a circle, making sure to press the ends together so they stick.
06 - Brush each bagel with the egg wash, sprinkle the leftover chocolate chips on top, and bake for 20–22 minutes at 375°F.

# Notes:

01 - Greek yogurt is crucial for getting the right texture.
02 - If you don’t have sourdough discard, you can swap it with an extra ½ cup of Greek yogurt.
03 - Bagels taste best fresh out of the oven with cream cheese or butter.
